100% clean energy community-wide by 2040

In order to meet the goal of 100% clean energy community-wide, the city will need buy-in from residents, businesses and organizations alike. One way that they can join the city’s efforts is by investing in solar energy!

Solarize Louisville enrollment opens in Spring 2025.

Louisville Metro Government has partnered with the Kentucky Solar Energy Society (KYSES) to launch the Solarize Louisville campaign to give households in Louisville/Jefferson County and seven surrounding counties the opportunity to go solar together and support the city’s 100% clean energy goals. The campaign gives households bulk-purchasing power to obtain discounted wholesale rates for solar installation from vetted installers. Our vetted installers during the 2024 season were Icon Solar Power and Pure Power Solar. To get notified when Solarize Louisville 2025 opens, please follow our newsletter, social media channels, or keep an eye on this page. You can also contact us to get on a notification email list.

Going solar will:

  • Reduce your energy bills

  • Potentially increase your property’s value

  • Support local solar jobs

  • Help Louisville meet its goal of using 100% clean energy community-wide by 2040

Discount and tax credit:

In 2024, Solarize Louisville installers offered a 12-18% discount, ensuring that participants receive the best possible value for their investment in solar energy. With the unfortunate rise of predatory solar companies in the region, Solarize Louisville seeks to protect consumers who are interested in investing in clean energy. In addition to these significant savings, participants in the Solarize Louisville program are also eligible for a 30% tax credit through the federal Inflation Reduction Act, further reducing the cost of transitioning to clean, renewable energy.

Eligible applicants:
This program is open to property owners in the Louisville/Jefferson County and surrounding counties (see full list of counties below). Residential and small non-residential property owners (nonprofit, commercial, institutional, etc.) are welcome to apply. Non-residential properties will be included if the project is deemed feasible within this campaign. Eligible counties are as follows:

  • Kentucky: Jefferson, Oldham, Spencer, Shelby, and Bullitt counties.

  • Indiana: Harrison, Floyd, and Clark counties.
